Meet the Coach!
Ambrose University Athletics is pleased to announce the appointment of Thiago Bastos as Head Coach of Men’s Soccer.
Originally from Brazil, Bastos brings more than 10 years of coaching experience across university, club, grassroots, and high-performance soccer environments in Canada. His Brazilian soccer roots, combined with extensive experience in both soccer and futsal, have shaped a coaching philosophy centered on technical excellence, creativity, player development, and lifelong learning.
His coaching journey has included leadership roles with the University of Lethbridge, the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba Regional Excel Centre, Vancouver Whitecaps programming, Okotoks United Soccer Club, and McKenzie United Soccer Club. Within these programs he has contributed to athlete development, coach education, recruitment, performance analysis, and long-term program planning.
Most recently, he serves as Assistant Technical Director and Boys Director at McKenzie United Soccer Club while also leading the Vancouver Whitecaps Caps to College program.
Bastos has completed a Master’s degree in High Performance Football from MBP School of Coaches in Barcelona and holds the Canada Soccer B Licence. Further, he is currently pursuing both the CONCACAF B Licence and the UEFA C Licence as part of his ongoing commitment to coaching excellence.
He is passionate about developing athletes and building meaningful relationships through sport. His commitment to faith, character development, and servant leadership aligns strongly with Ambrose University’s mission and values.
