Jarvis Karchewski Named Interim Women's Volleyball Head Coach

 Calgary, AB | Women's Volleyball hires Interim Head Coach

Jarvis Karchewski has been named the Interim Head Coach for the Lions Women's Volleyball Program. Coach Karchewski has been an Assistant Coach in the program for the past two seasons, and with the recent departure of Barry Heidebrecht as the Bench Boss, Lions Athletics is pleased to name Coach Jarvis as the Interim Head Coach for the upcoming season. "I am very grateful to have such a strong Assistant Coach on our team that was ready to take the reins when Coach Barry resigned," said Athletic Director Colin Kubinec. "Jarvis is very respected by the team, is a brilliant volleyball mind, and I believe will do an excellent job in this Interim role. Coach Barry did an excellent job building this team up to where it is today, and I believe Coach K will hit the ground running."

Jarvis has an impressive Volleyball resume. Growing up in Calgary, he went and played Division 1 Volleyball south of the border for Mount Olive College, a Baptist College in North Carolina. After that, he also went on to play pro in Denmark for a few years, continuing to hone his playing skills as an elite-level setter. While overseas, Jarvis also got deeply entrenched in the Coaching world, coaching a Women's professional team in the Denmark league for 3 years. When coming back to Canada, he got involved coaching youth right away for the Jr. Canucks, and then got started in the post-secondary sector, assistant coaching at both Olds College for 3 years and Ambrose University for two years. Jarvis's good communication skills, technical knowledge, learner mindset, and ability to connect with and unite his teams are a few examples of the strong coaching gifts that he is bringing to the table.

The Lions Women's Volleyball team were Silver medalists in the ACAC this past season and are a hungry bunch of committed post-secondary student athletes, ready to get back at it again this Fall.
